When the iconic Forth Bridge was completed in 1890, it brought the peoples of Edinburgh and Fife closer together – whether they wanted it or not! This poster was an attempt to give warning to Edinburgh's prickly citizens.
If there's one thing that will guarantee irritation in a Scot, it's the inappropriate application of the word 'Scotch'. Where once it was used as a label for the peoples of Scotland and their diaspora, today it applies to only four things: broth, whisky, a pie and an egg.
The number one, no contest, top of everyone's list of the Scottish Cringe is shortbread tins and the tartan that covers them. Disparaged by Scots far and wide as the epitome of Tartan Tat, I say 'enough!' Tartan is amazing and shortbread is the food of the gods. Let's celebrate Scottishness.
'Boaby' is not the name of this cockerel but is, rather, a Scots language nickname for a certain male anatomical feature.

Obviously the new year is here and everyone has their calendar. However, if you are one of the ones who have not yet snagged one I have exactly 25 left, all of which I've priced down from £9.50 to just £4. It's first come, first served on these. Please help me empty my shelves!
]]>In the mean time, I'll be selling off the remaining stock at a greatly reduced price, at Leith Market. Most of them look totally fine, but I don't want to take any risks.
If you have bought a coaster that you think has been too easily chipped along the edge, please let me know.
Thanks.

]]>One particular drawing, that I made in the spring, really took off. My 'Ah Want Tae Believe' drawing was easily the hit of this year, somehow being nearly twice as popular its closest competitor, which as it happens was also on the subject of Scotland's most famous loch dweller!
Swim wi Nessie narrowly beat out my Scots language drawing of a Heilan Coo to become the second most popular design of the year, which is quite something considering how much everyone likes a heilan coo!
In my t-shirt shop, I was rather pleased with my Pictish and Celtic designs, which launched late in the year. However, 'Monarchie? Nein Danke' was by far the most popular design to wear, which really is no surprise, given a certain over privileged man sat on a giant tacky gold chair. (I just checked and, yes, that really did happen this year.)
On the subject of my t-shirt shop, did I mention I also now have mugs for sale there? And jigsaws! I'm quite excited about that.
Finally, my Overrated Scotland calendar continued to be extremely popular, accounting for almost half of all the calendars I sold. Which is wild! Luckily (?!), there is no shortage of people leaving bad reviews online, so this trend is liable to continue, although I may have to get draw some more landscapes to keep up!
More than anything else, I want to thank you for your support throughout 2023. As I mentioned, it was a hard year for me, and I really can't stress enough how much your continued support has meant. Fingers crossed 2024 reverses the trend and is a better year!
Thank you for reading, take care of you and yours, and lang may yer lum reek!
P.S. there's Free Shipping in my t-shirt shop from 9am December 29th to midnight on January 1st.
]]>You have until 10am on Monday 11th December to place your order. While I hold some stock here (particularly calendars), most items are printed to order, therefore if you place your order after that time I cannot guaranteed it will arrive before Christmas.
Royal Mail suggests that Second Class mail should be posted no later than Monday 18th in order to arrive for Christmas.
My final posting date of 2023 is December 22nd. The next posting date will be January 5th. Since most items are made to order, it is likely most orders placed over the festive period will be posted on January 12th.Thank you so much for all of your support and orders throughout 2023.

Without you, there would be no Indy Prints and I can't thank you enough for your support over the last nine years. (I still can't believe it's been that long!) Thank you, thank you, thank you.
When I launched my shop in July 2014 to sell prints of the political art I was making during the independence referendum, I had no idea that Indy Prints would take over my life. While politics is only a part of what I do now, promoting Scotland and its culture is the very essence of my work. Thank you, again, for sticking with me on my journey.
This year has been a particularly hard, following the death of my mum, Pat Bremner, four months ago. Mum was one of the nicest and most supportive people I've ever known and I am incredibly lucky to have had her in my life. More than anyone, Mum is responsible for who I am and where I am in life!
So of course I've made little new work and sent few newsletters recently and that's likely to continue for a while. However, the act of creation is incredibly important to me. Now, as the ninth year of my Indy Prints odyssey begins, I hope that inspiration will strike again in the not too distant future and I hope, too, that you'll be coming along with me when it does.
Thank you once more,
Stewart

In the Overrated Scotland collection, I have drawn inspiration from online reviews shared by travellers, both from near and far. These designs celebrate the quirks and idiosyncrasies that make Scotland so special, while adding a touch of humour to the mix. From renowned landmarks to lesser-known gems, each artwork captures a unique aspect of Scotland's charm, as seen through the eyes of those who explore our shores.
As an independent artist, I take great pride in crafting each piece with care and attention to detail. By owning one of these hand-drawn artworks, you not only embrace the playful side of Scotland but also support a local artist who is passionate about capturing the essence of our beloved country.
If you're intrigued and would like to delve into this lighthearted collection of 40 designs, I invite you to visit the collection. Discover the amusing scenes that blend art and humour, igniting curiosity about what visitors, both from home and away, think of our remarkable nation. They're all available as posters, cards, magnets and more.

At Saturday's Leith Market, one of my lovely customers asked about my 2024 calendars and it was at that moment when I realised that while I had indeed made them, I had neglected to let anyone know about it – let alone give them the chance to buy one! Um. Oops. So please consider this a rectification. Of course, if it's too early to mention next year's calendars please feel free to close this email and forget I mentioned it.
Still here? Yay! Well then, you'll want to know that this year I have eight calendars to choose from and each is available in slimline or A4 sizes. I hope you find something you like.
]]>With the massive money splurge of the coronation of Charles on its way, I thought it was a good time to make my NOPE t-shirt more of a statement. Now with very bright colours, no one is going to miss this dis of the monarch.
PLUS, anything you add to your basket this weekend in my t-shirt shop, from now until midnight on Sunday, will automatically qualify for free UK shipping. No code is required, just check out with your favourite items and wait for the knock at the door!
]]>Due to numerous suppliers cost increases, my products will increase in price from 27th February. The last time I reviewed my prices was early 2020 and since then material, production and operating costs have all increased. This has forced me, reluctantly, to review my prices, so that I can continue to provide the same quality products at an affordable price. Note that this change applies only to my print shop and not my t-shirt shop.
]]>Thank you all for your support this year. Lang may yer lum reek!
]]>If you order calendars before Thursday night, I have stock of them and will be posting them on Friday, so you should still receive them in time for Xmas.
]]>I don't know about you, but this year seems to be really rushing by. I only just realised that it was time for this email by chance. How can it be December already?!
To get to the point, if you're planning on ordering Christmas gifts from me this year, you'll need to place your order by midday on Tuesday 6th December. Which is tomorrow, as I write this. I'm so sorry not to give you more notice. I mean, December? Really?
]]>All you need to do is click here to activate the discount, or use code muckle22 at the checkout. This only applies to print shop and not my t-shirt shop.
]]>If you've been reading my newsletter for a while, you'll have noticed that over the past couple of years I've really got into tartan. Not only did I create a range of over 300 tartans, I also added tartan to some of my Scots Sayings.
Launching today are fourteen more of my Mid-Century style drawings of popular Scots Sayings, combined with gorgeous tartans.
I'm really pleased with how these have turned out. I think I'm even going to order a few for my wall, which I'll just have to somehow make space for! I hope you like them as much.
As always, the range is available as posters, cards, magnets and more.
]]>It’s spooky season and I’m here to remind you that in Scotland we have our own Hallowe’en tradition – one that does not involve pumpkins!
I originally made my Neep Lantren drawing for the Scots Language Centre’s social media, then later made it available here. In addition, earlier today I was asked if I could put it on a t-shirt, which I have. I hope you like it.
]]>I have four new #indyref2 designs launching in my print shop today. The first is The Early Days of a Better Nation on tartan. It's an update of the drawing I revised on the day after the indyref – now with added tartan!

The second is The Early Days of a Better Nation (LGBTQI+BLM). It's a tweak of the drawing I revised the day after #indyref. Now with added tartan and the Saltire replaced with the new rainbow flag.

The third is The People's Republic of Scotland, which is a wee bit tongue in cheek. But on the other hand…

The fourth is We will win, which is a defiant statement that we need to both believe and take as an inspiration for indyref2.

Somehow this is my seventh year of making calendars. I can see the numbers in front of me but it surely can't be right. Dearie me.
You can see the full range here.
]]>Over the years, I've taken part in a few collaborations, both in art and in music. It's also fair to say that a lot of my political work has been collaborative, particularly that made with Believe in Scotland and Yes Scotland. However, this is the first time I'll have collaborative work in my Indy Prints shop!
A little while ago, Scots scriever Laura Law asked me if I would like to make some art from her writing, in particular her haiku poems. Laura scrieves poetry in the Scots leid an her wirk has been prentit in Lallans and the Eemis Stane magazine.
She showed me some of her haiku and I was really taken with them, so jumped at the chance to transform them into visual art. It took a few attempts to get them right, but I am really happy with the final results. I hope you like them an aw.
I've given Laura's wonderful words a 20th century makeover, combining geometric shapes and elegant curves that hark back to abstract works of the thirties. Meanwhile the colour palette has more of a mid-century feel.
There are three haiku in the range, each available in two colour palettes. And, as always, you can get them as posters, cards, magnets and more.
You can see the whole range here.
]]>Consequently, the orders I was planning to post today will be sent out in the first half of next week, as soon as is possible.
Sorry for the delay.
]]>"Groups across Scotland will soon be able to buy mugs, cards and magnets designed by the artist Stewart Bremner, known for his eye-catching graphics and a mural he designed for an old-fashioned police box near Leith Walk."
Read more in The National.
]]>Below is the north side of the box, which needed the most work. I'm really happy with this updated version. (You can see how it looked before I started the refresh further down.)
To mark the moment, I thought it would be fun to do a weekend sale on my Vote Yes items. I've added back the full range of colours and, until the end of Sunday, you can get 20% off all of them.
Just click here to activate the discount, or use code tardisredone at the checkout.
I mentioned there were two murals. On the south side of the box is my Persevere drawing. Happily this side didn't need too much work.
Just like my Vote Yes items, you can 20% off all my Persevere items as well.
I hope you like how the murals turned out and, if you happen to be in Edinburgh, I hope you'll check them out. Find out about the Leith Walk Police Box here.
]]>Included is a big expansion to my range of Scots Sayings t-shirts. Here are a few to whet your appetite.
