Get steam boats – card
Back in the day, it was illegal to buy alcohol on the Lord’s Day, unless you were a bona fide traveller. This was before railways, when steam boats were the best way to travel a long distance. The bona fide traveller loophole became a popular way to get bevvied in Scotland’s coastal cities. People got on a ferry and stayed on until they’ed had their fill. They got steam boats, got steamin. This poster for Scottish National Railways, which makes unashamed reference to the practice, was both highly controversial and short-lived.
