The Glenfinnan Monument is a dreadful disapppointment – poster
Is Scotland overrated or just misunderstood?
If we could “see oorsels as ithers see us” what would we see? Well, thanks to the wonders of the interwebs we can and apparently some of Scotland’s loveliest places… kinda suck.
Hilariously bad reviews
It seems some of the visitors to our shores have misunderstood what they came to see and then they've written a review to prove it. The Overrated Scotland collection features some choice quotes from those reviews, paired with the gorgeous locations they describe. Sometimes the truth is hilarious.
About this location
“The monument is smaller then expected. What a dreadful disappointment.”The monument at the head of Glenfinnan was built in 1815 to commemorate the failed Jacobite uprising of 1745. The statue of the anonymous highlander on the top was added twenty years later.
The artwork
The drawing takes inspiration from vintage travel posters, particularly ones created during the inter-war period. The overlaid text is a wide-spaced sans-serif typeface that has a definite London Underground map feeling to it. The original drawing can be found in the Landscapes collection.
