More curiosities
Posted by Stewart Bremner on
Today sees the launch of three new pieces in the What it…? range of Scottish cultural and historical curiosities, a collection that poses a series of questions in order to offer glimpses – through the medium of advertisements – into what the Scotlands of different alternate realities might be. Lady MacBeth imagines what theatre may look like if gender roles were reversed and is drawn in a style that fuses Celtic art and Art Nouveau. This is an idea that I've had in my head for years, so it's really nice to finally see it made flesh. Dandelion Tea poses the...

Two new views
Posted by Stewart Bremner on
Those of you who are super-observant may have noticed I added two new views to my landscape collection, although since that brings the total number up to 79, it's probably unlikely. The two are of Edinburgh and were drawn before you-know-what, when I had been planning a 2021 Edinburgh calendar. The calendar is probably not going to happen, however I have added the views to my shop, in the usual poster, card, magnet and more formats. Edinburgh: St Bernard's Well – next to the Water of Leith near Stockbridge, St Bernard's Well was designed by Alexander Nasmyth in 1789 on the...

No yer darlin
Posted by Stewart Bremner on
Back just before the crisis hit, I realised that I wanted to make a Scottish version of the popular Not Your Darling design. Changing the language to Scots was an obvious start, although wasn't enough. Then I remembered that I had not long since drawn a series of tartans for my icons series and thought that tartan would be the perfect addition to the design. The problem was, which tartan? We're a Jock Tamson's bairns
Posted by Stewart Bremner on
One of the first batch of Scots Sayings I drew three years ago was 'We're a Jock Tamson's bairns'. It's an expression of universal identification. Put simply, it means that we are all one. Later that year, the Scots Language Centre asked me to do a new version of it, that they would use for social media posts. They and others shared this again recently, linking its sentiment to the Black Lives Matter movement. Consequently, I've been asked to make the design available on Indy Prints. This new version is now live in the shop, all polished up with two colour options and...

Make a date
Posted by Stewart Bremner on
Big news – my 2021 calendars are now available! This year's range contains four different designs, covering Scots Sayings, politics, landscapes and my What if…? drawings. As always, each calendar features some of the most popular drawings from each range. New for this year is that the Scots Sayings calendar now has a choice of covers. I asked the Twitter which cover they preferred and there was no clear winner, so I decided to offer both. Which one do you prefer? Those of you who remember my 2020 calendar range might notice that there are less landscape calendar options this time. If you think...
